The accumulation of the Seminar “Latin American Judicial Policy from a Public Defender's Perspective” was debated at an academic seminar in Vitória-ES

IMG-20150924-WA0013The Justice Forum presented the accumulation of the Seminar “Latin American Judicial Policy from a Public Defender's Perspective” at the V Seminar on Rights, Research and Social Movements, held at the Faculty of Law of Vitória - ES between 22 and 26 in September. The Seminar was debated in the Discussion Space ED - Observatory of the justice system, public policies and the legislature, along with other works related to: the deficiencies of the Judiciary in the Southern Espírito Santo Microregion; the influence of economic power on the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court and the behavior of critical sectors of the legal field facing violations of rights in the major manifestations of 2013.

The state of the art of the campaign for the Regional Convention on Access to Justice, the perception of public defenders from other Latin American countries regarding the social status of their career, as well as the history of constitution of the Justice Forum were questioned.

In this sense, the initial stage of the Convention was indicated, given that the participants of the Seminar were tasked with bringing this proposal to its home base. He took the opportunity to invite those present to participate in the next seminar “The Reform of Justice in Brazil”, to be held on November 17, 18 and 19 at the UERJ, where the campaign for the Convention will be discussed again.

Regarding the social status of the Public Defender's Office in Latin America, the different degrees of development of the institution on the continent were reported and more information can be learned from Diagnosis of the Public Defender in America.

Regarding the trajectory of the Justice Forum, its constitution was highlighted as an instrument of resistance from which public defenders could continue their work with social movements in a conservative moment and of political adversity in the institution, in which the end activity was impacted by demands from the government. Rio de Janeiro City Hall and State Government in view of the Mega Events that the city would now host.
